What A Photography Session With Sturgeon Photography Is Really Like.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m awkward in front of the camera,” you’re not alone.
One of the most common things to hear before a session is, “I’ve never done this before.” And that’s completely okay.

My goal as a photographer isn’t to force stiff poses or perfect smiles, it’s to create a comfortable, relaxed experience where you can simply be yourself.

Before the Session

Every session starts with a conversation. I want to understand what you’re looking for, what the photos are for, and what matters most to you.

If you’re unsure about locations, outfits, or even what kind of photos you want, I’m happy to help guide you. There are lot of options; we can rent a studio or enjoy a beautiful park. You don’t need to have everything figured out, that’s part of my job.

During the Session

Sessions with me are laid-back and natural. I’ll give gentle direction when needed, but I focus more on real moments than rigid posing.

For portraits and headshots, I help you relax into movements and expressions that feel natural. For live events, I blend into the background to capture moments as they unfold. And when it comes to animals, patience and letting their personality shine is always the priority. Please let me know if your pet as any allergies too. As a dog mom, its best to be prepared with some treats

There’s no pressure to be perfect, some of the best images come from in-between moments, laughter, and genuine connection.

My Approach

I believe photography should feel more like an experience than a performance. I aim to create images that reflect who you are, not just how you look.

Whether it’s a professional headshot, an event full of energy, or the quiet personality of a beloved animal, I focus on authenticity, emotion, and real connection.

After the Session

Once your session is complete, I carefully select and edit your images with the same attention and care that went into capturing them. You’ll receive photos that feel natural, timeless, and true to the moment.
